1/30/02, 1/31/02 Regular Chemistry Homework
Read pages 266-273 in Chapter 8 of your book.
Answer the following questions pertaining to that
material:
1) In a polar bond how are the electrons shared? How are the electrons pulled? What are dipoles? Dipoles are only found in what type of molecules?
2) What must you look at in
order to determine polarity? Look at figure 8-16, explain why formaldehyde is
polar? Explain what the arrows represent in the diagram.
3) Look at figure 8-17, a model
of carbon dioxide, explain whether it is polar or nonpolar, and explain what
the arrows represent.
4) Examine figure 8-19, why is
water polar? Does water have separate positive and negative ends? Why?
5) What is a protein? What makes
up proteins? How does the protein go together?
Explain how the polarities of a protein help for the shape of it.
******This is the last
assignment before the test, your study guide will due on February 5th
